For some of these travelers this trip may be a completely new experience for them. If they have not taken a trip outside of Wisconsin before, then they may never have been to these southern U.S. states.

I dash into the school to grab a few essential items for my impending trip to Las Vegas. The school bus pulls into the school gate. It’s Saturday morning, 10:40am. I’m writing in the 6th grade room. I’m surrounded by eleven students and two adults who are working like crazy. Sixty other students are scattered around the building in classrooms, and working in small groups with six teachers, nine adult tutors, and four high school students, all of whom are here to help students succeed.

On Friday, I attended the Business Journal Real Estate Awards at the downtown Hilton to receive the First Place award for the Best New Development in Elementary/Secondary Education category. I’m at lunch at the big ballroom on Marquette University’s campus to celebrate the new major donor’s to MU’s scholarship program. One of the donor’s happens to be Bruce Krier, who has for a long time been one of THE major supporters of St. Marcus. Bruce has established an endowed scholarship at Marquette. The primary criteria for applicants is that they are a graduate of St. Marcus. Wow!

Saturday May 7th, the DA explorers headed to the University of Arizona for an amazing campus experience. Our tour guides lead two groups through the beautiful college and discussed the story of the campus fight song, showed the students the massive computer library, student services, and cafeteria.

Afterward everyone said a very tearfull goodbye to Mrs. Weber as she headed back to Wisconsin--and then headed to the Phoenix Airport to pick up a very special passenger--Mr. Festerling!
